The Salthill Prom

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

After singing the Steve Earle song Galway Girl countless times, I decided to do some research on what is was Steve was singing about. “I took a stroll on the ol’ Long Walk” – “And I knew right then, I’d be takin’ a whirl round the Salthill Prom with a Galway Girl.”

Salthill is a place in Galway, and the Prom refers to the Promenade. Sounds like some place I’d like to visit!

Salthill (Irish: Bóthar na Trá) is a seaside area of Galway city, Ireland. It lies within the townland of Lenaboy (an Léana Buí) attracts many tourists all year round. There is a 2 km long promenade, locally known as the Prom, overlooking Galway Bay with bars, restaurants and hotels.

Just some random lyric trivia for you.
